How to Help a Loved One

Helping a Loved One get Treatment for Anxiety

Living with someone or knowing someone who has anxiety can be frustrating and cause you to have a great deal of concern. You may have begun to notice how their anxiety is slowly taking over their life and realize that it is time for them to do something about it. You may know that all of the symptoms you’ve been seeing suggest that they need to seek help to get control of their life back. However, knowing how to get them help can be challenging. Here are a few tips to help you to talk to your loved about getting treatment:

Educate yourself: Take the time to educate yourself about anxiety— how it manifests, the symptoms, and the effects— so that you will know what to expect from your loved one. Also, by educating yourself you will be knowledgeable when the time comes for you to talk to your loved one about seeking care at a hospital that treats anxiety.

Empathize: Understand the impact that anxiety has on your loved one and try to put yourself in their shoes. Realize that while it may be frustrating to have a loved one with this disorder, living day-to-day with the symptoms can be very difficult and stressful. When you talk to them make sure that you actually listen and don’t minimize their feelings or experiences.

Offer support: If your loved one agrees that they need treatment, be there to support them through the whole process. Offer to make appointments at an anxiety treatment center for them and go with them to those appointments. While they are in treatment, take the time to check in to see how they are doing.

Seek support: In addition to helping your loved one, it is also important to remember that you have needs as well. Look into local support groups around Charlotte and Lancaster that can offer you support and allow you to process your emotions.

Why Consider Treatment

Why Consider Inpatient Treatment for Anxiety at Rebound Behavioral Health in South Carolina

Men and women with GAD have a hard time getting rid of their concerns even though many of them realize that their anxiety is unwarranted. GAD can greatly impact a person’s life and people may respond by avoiding friends, family, and activities they once enjoyed. This disorder can affect your ability to make decisions, concentrate, or remember things. Additionally, it is not unusual for people to self-medicate with drugs or alcohol to relieve their symptoms, which may lead to a substance abuse problem.

Due to the complexity of this disorder, an inpatient treatmentcenter is an effective form of intervention for many people who struggle with generalized anxiety disorder. Through an inpatient program you will be able to experience a range of treatment options such as individual, group, and family therapy, as well as a number of different experiential programs designed to help you in the healing process.

Treatment Methods

Types of Anxiety Treatment Offered at Rebound Behavioral Health

When you come to us for treatment, you’ll have an interdisciplinary team who collaborates with you to develop treatment goals for your stay with us. Our program allows our clients to draw on input from staff and peers as they regain the stability needed to return to the community. We take a holistic approach to the treatment of GAD, including a combination of medication and therapeutic approaches.

Medication such as anti-anxiety agents may be used as part of your treatment to help decrease the severity of the symptoms so you are better able to engage in the therapeutic process. All medication decisions will be made by you and your treatment team.

Individual therapy is used to address personal issues related to your anxiety and any co-occurring disorders. Within 72 hours of being admitted to our treatment center, you will be seen on an individual basis to set up a psychological treatment plan. Additionally, each patient meets daily with their doctor to review progress made at our anxiety hospital.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is considered to be an effective type of psychotherapy for anxiety. This type of therapy addresses errors or distortions in thinking, helping you to challenge negative thoughts and replace them with more adaptive ways of thinking. Other methods used may include solution-focused therapy and the recovery model.

Group therapy is the main type of therapy used at our anxiety treatment center. We are proud to offer a number of groups that cover a wide range of topics. Our group therapy sessions are run by the unit social worker and are designed to help you work through challenges by getting input from staff and peers. Some group topics may include life skills, daily goals, process groups, and psycho-educational groups.

Family therapy is an important aspect of the treatment process. Family sessions are held at least once per stay and are used to address family dynamics which may contribute to your anxiety. On Sundays, family education sessions are held to help patients’ loved ones understand more about their anxiety and the recovery process. Additionally, we help connect family members with appropriate support in their area and community resources they can use to better cope with their loved one’s anxiety.
